Measuring the height of concrete blocks

optoNCDT 1700 laser sensors are being used to automatically monitor the production of concrete blocks. Placed after the block-making machine, the sensors measure the height of the blocks “on-the-fly”. The baseboards serve as the reference distance when calculating the height.

A concrete factory, with its specific requirements, is not a typical environment for precision laser sensors. However, cost pressures and production flexibility call for the use of modern sensors for monitoring production. The optoNCDT 1700-500 laser sensor is extended at the customer’s premises by using a powerful microcontroller and an Ethernet interface. With a measurement range of 500 mm, the sensor assures adequate distance in the measurement system so that all common block formats can be measured.
